Learn the stories and creative process behind some of Ken’s most iconic pieces.
Kerrin McEvoy
The first thing that struck me about Kerrin was his remarkable focus and attention to detail. These qualities had to come into the sculpture! – For these are qualities that no doubt contribute to his success.
Jimmy Melrose
During the glamorous mid-1930s, few rivalled the celebrity of charismatic South Australian aviator Jimmy Melrose. Imagine a young, 19 year old boy, 6 feet tall, blue eyes, unruly blond hair with a freckled face.
Tuna Poler, Port Lincoln Foreshore
Tuna poling was exciting and often dangerous work, performed in open wild seas. The ‘Tuna Poler” sculpture commemorates all who took part in this pioneering form of fishing for Tuna that paved the way for innovation and transition to aquaculture in the late 20th Century.
Barrie Robran MBE, Adelaide Oval
The third sculpture Ken created for the Adelaide Oval is different on a number of counts, portraying the remarkable sportsman Barrie Robran embracing flight and aerial display in sculpture.
Centenary Sculpture, Scotch College
The development of this concept is layered in historic, contemporary and future aspirations of Scotch College.
Darren Lehmann, Adelaide Oval
This sculpture is the second of a set of three at Adelaide Oval and captures that moment when Darren Lehmann has played one of his signature strokes.
Jason Gillespie, Adelaide Oval
Ken was asked to create the first of three bronze sculptures at the newly redeveloped Adelaide Oval in 2010 because of his ability to capture life, energy and movement in sculpture while producing a detailed full body portraits.
Makybe Diva, Port Lincoln Foreshore
Makybe Diva, Ken’s first public sculpture, is arguably one of the most famous racehorses in Australian racing history. A life-size portrait of the three-times Melbourne Cup winner now stands proudly on the foreshore at Port Lincoln.
Sculpting highly detailed work full of life, energy and movement.
With a skillset in sculpting the beauty found in nature, a deep understanding and appreciation of anatomy and an innate capacity to capture the spirit of the subject, a collaboration with Ken Martin will result in a powerful artwork that will delight and memorialise greatness for generations to come.
