The development of this concept is layered in historic, contemporary and future aspirations of Scotch College. Through rendering of minimal form, these figures are open to interpretation and not confined to specific period or persona - thus embodying a timeless quality.

The sphere is pivotal to the narrative of this composition, harking back to the metaphorical baton alluded to in the brief, a fulcrum for history and future.

An orb is an evocative object, bringing to mind the realms of Science, Art, Sport and a world to be discovered and contributed too.

A globe free of cartographic references renders it open to pondering a world to be discovered and contributed to. The figures interacting with the orb evokes a sense of community within school and globally.

I can imagine the sphere developing a polished surface from rubbing by inquisitive hands and pondering minds. A reflective and inspiring site to visit; it is part of a living history.

Although the figures are largely androgynous there is nonetheless subtle reference to the participation and equality of male and female. The sphere also embraces a sense of cultural diversity.

The choreography of this sculpture brings to mind dance and music – It is a performance piece, celebrating the past, present and future, gesticulated through human movement.

Subtle texture on the figures, free of sharp edges contrasts with the polished globe enhancing visualization of kinetic energy and tactile contemplation.
